Act 4: Plas Bodfa

We were unable to realise Act 4 at Plas Bodfa on the Isle of Anglesey, Wales due to the Covid pandemic.

John Elcock, Simon Job and Angelo Madonna were previously selected for Unus Multurum with their group installation that we titled In Absentia.

We had originally planned to use audio-visual interventions to test the concepts of presence/absence in this amazing building in Anglesey – which is headed-up by the wonderful US artist Julie Upmeyer.

Through the use of simple materials, light and low-frequency sound, we had hoped to create a set of restrained yet possibly unnerving works responding to the building fabric as well as its relationship with its wider landscape.

Simon got lost in lifts and the fabric of the building, Angelo was absorbed in the sounds this complex set of rooms generated, John looked for visual and aural clues that would connect the inside and outside worlds and marry them to the present complexity of the building structure.

Ultimately Covid swept and destroyed all before it, predicated by the omens of Storm Ciara which almost blew us off the ground when we visited for our site survey in Feb 2020.

We could not realise our collective vision for Act 4, but John did manage to create a version of his installation at his studio in Liverpool.

Incredibly, Julie at Plas Bodfa re-created the piece in-situ at Plas Bodfa in a beautiful re-siting of the Vimeo file in the room for which it was created. Here it is:
